Thanksgiving and why
So today is Thanksgiving a day when something happened with a bunch of pilgrims and some Indians and a big rock named Plymouth ( probably a war or something). As Americans we celebrate this day by getting even fatter then we already are by stuffing as much food down our throats as possible. Its a Thanksgiving tradition to serve turkey (possibly b/c the Indians trained them to kill pilgrims and this is our way of getting back at the turkeys) and many other dishes involving lots of sugar and cholesterol. No but in all seriousness Thanksgiving is the day of the year were the nonjews sit down to a nice meal with there family and Friends and are thankful (possibly for the fact that they weren't around went the pilgrims were getting killed by Indians armed with lethal turkeys). Notice how i said nonjews and not "we" that is because we have an obligation to be thankful to hashem ever single day of the year, for giving us everything we have. a person close to me we will call her Avital celebrated her twenty first birthday yesterday. we were talking on the phone last night about how when we look back everything seems to have flown bye so quickly. This got me thinking about how precious ever single day is everyday we have the chance to make a difference in the world around us. There is so much one can learn and do and so many things we can work on and should be working on. And most people wake up every morning and without even thinking about it get dressed go to work and continue there dreary existence. we need to take a step back every once in a while and look at our lives and all that we have and all the potential hashem gives us and just simply say thank you hashem. Did you ever notice how when you say a bruchah on food it tastes that much better. when a person steals something they don't really appreciate what they stole a healthy person feels guilt, remorse and regret. But when somebody gives a present and the recipient says thank you and the giver sees that the recipient means it not only dose the giver feel good but the recipient also feels good b/c he realises that through his thanks he gave in his own way. This is how a healthy relationship works this is how a healthy marriage works this is how our relationship with hashem should work. So in light of this reasoning i now understand the nonjewish holiday of Thanks giving hashem is showing us LOOK even the goyim take a day out of there year of nonsense to be thankful for all i give them. You my nation who i gave the torah too and give countless blessings too each and everyday should learn from this and do it that much more.
peace out
